Original or aftermarket screen: which one to choose?

When replacing a screen you can usually choose between original and aftermarket. The price difference can be two or three times, so it’s worth knowing what you’re paying for.

Original screen

The same as the phone had from the factory: same colours, brightness, touch response and power consumption. Choose it if the phone is new or expensive, if you take lots of photos or watch videos and want everything “as it was”.

Aftermarket screen

Made by a third party. Quality depends on the technology:

  • Soft OLED — close to original: deep blacks, thin bezels, good colours.
  • Hard OLED — cheaper, a little thicker and more fragile.
  • Incell (LCD) — the budget option: paler colours, blacks aren’t truly black, and it may use more power.

Which one to pick?

If the phone is older and you just want it working again, a good aftermarket screen is often the smartest choice. If you plan to keep the phone for a long time or it’s new, go for the original.

Either way you get a 3-month warranty, and before the repair I show you which screen I’m fitting.
